Bill's insurance - Priority Health - does not want to transfer him to University of MIchigan because it is out of network. Instead they want to transfer him to Detroit Medical Center under the care of a neurosurgeon. Both we and the physicians here at Metro Health feel this is a poor plan and that an ENT doctor should be in charge of his care, that a neurosurgical treatment is a last resort. We are currently trying to convince Priority Health about the transfer to U of M.
On a reassuring note, the physicians here at Metro Health spoke to the physician at U of M to whom we were trying to transfer Bill, and they agree with the current management: keep the lumbar drain in place for the next 4-5 days and then reassess if the patch has sealed off the 1.2cm hole in the sinus.
