Bill continues to amaze me! He is such a trooper - his strength continues to be challenged daily and he just endures, and shines through.
He has had a sleepy day, but remained alert when questioned. The amusing part is the creative, "frontal lobe" answers and comments that he has come up with today. The doctors feel this is just an effect from the pressure that the area sustained over a substantial period of time. Overall, he is more interactive, making us feel better. The glitch is that the CT scan showed more air today. This is puzzling and troubling everyone. The doctors want to take care of any possible, even though unlikely cause (what hasn't been unlikely about this case?). If tomorrow's scan shows no positive change, they will reinforce the area where the lumbar drain had been placed. They will do this with something called a blood patch if anyone wants to know. We'll give that a couple of days, then if there is no improvement, they will try to evacuate the air (which is located in the ventricle with the ventriculostomy) with the ventric catheter and then remove the catheter and seal the area. It's not something they ever see, and didn't want to give much credence to, but the scan shows that we should consider that the ventriculostomy itself is introducing air. It would be a great final answer, but I'm afraid it will involve a little more watching and waiting.
Because Bill's alertness level is not down in the deepest depths today, it's left us appreciating his humor and giving us the hope and patience to continue on. We know he, and the rest of us, remain in all of your thoughts and prayers and appreciate that more than I can convey. Don't quit quite yet!
Love to all, Nancy
