Surgery #5

Dad entered the OR about an hour ago for another procedure. Today they will be entering the ventricles in the brain endoscopically through the existing drain hole. This, in turn, will hopefully release some of the air that seems to be stuck in this area. We expect he will be out of surgery in about two hours. This procedure is fairly experimental in the fact that they have never previously used it to remove air. However, the risks are fairly low and are the same as installing the drain.

We do not know (nor do the doctors) if the success of the procedure will be apparent instantaneously. They expect they may have to draw out small portions of air intermittently, through the drain, to eventually decrease the amount of air and size of the ventricles.

If we know anything definitive, good or bad, we will be sure to post later tonight. Otherwise, we will await CTs in the morning.
