Just a quick note to let all of you wonderful prayer warriors know that surgery went very well last night. The doctors were able to flush out a little air during the endoscopic part of the procedure and then placed new ventriculostomy tubes in the front part of each of the two ventricles in hopes that those areas full of air could free flow out the catheters. The scan immediately following surgery showed less air (yeah!!), but the ventricles are still stretched way bigger than they should be and the brain has not wanted to expand yet. That might be too much to ask, yet! The hope is to allow the ventricles to release air , maybe through manipultion of the tubing at bedside. This is still a "let's cross our fingers" type of intervention with no assurance that it will be successful, but we see a definite difference in Bill today. Maybe because of the release last night, but he knows his name and my name today, and is more alert overall. I remain grateful for his doctors who continue to make skilled decisions on his behalf - it's starting to feel like family here, everyone was excited to see him perk up a bit today! And just as I suspected, he's known as the "big airhead" around here. Someday he might appreciate the fact that he has the distinction of possessing more air in his head than anyone has ever seen around here!
Today is a day filled with hope, even if more intervention is needed, it's good to see he can still respond more like the old Bill when conditions change!
Lisa is gone for a few days and will be back on Saturday; Julie and I will leave to go back to Holland (it's bill paying time for me) on Sat. and return here on Sunday with fresh clothes. Yeah! Jess continues to run back and forth from Royal Oak.
Praise God for little reminders and big ones that He, the Almighty, has us all under His wings and loves us more than we can ever imagine.
Thanks to all, Nancy
