Since Bill has been so lethargic yesterday and today, they did a repeat CT scan of his head which shows even more air around his brain than there was initially. So, again he is lying flat with the lumbar drain open, breathing 100% oxygen. There are 2 possible sources for this air -- either the drain itself or an unclosed hole in the sinus. Bill's ENT doctor at Metro Health feels that the air is due to the lumbar drain, though there isn't much evidence to support this. In order to see if the hole has sealed, Bill will get the imaging test (cisternogram) this afternoon. At 3pm he will have dye injected into his lumbar drain, and then at 9pm they will take the pictures evaluate the leak.
Please pray that the cisternogram tonight will clearly show that the air is caused from a persistent sinus hole so that Bill will be transferred U of M for more definitive care.
