Tired, but alert

Sorry this took so long to post, but now that Bill is more awake, it means less time to accomplish our own agenda when we're "sitting " with him! That's a good thing! Today, although very
tired, Bill seemed a little more aware than before. It felt like he was coming around a little bit. His singing voice sounded a little more familiar! He was able to get rid of his oxygen face tent and one of his ventriculostomy tubes because there is very little air left to disperse. They are still draining cerebrospinal fluid out of the remaining one in hopes that it will encourage the ventricles to shrink. There may have been a slight inprovement in size on the CT yesterday. He is scheduled for another tomorrow morning.

His neurosurgeon felt that a move to Mary Free Bed could happen in the next week or two. He will have extensive work to do and Dr. Sullivan is preparing me for the fact that it might take weeks and maybe months for the "real Bill" to emerge.

All in all, a positive day..so why do I feel so discouraged? It was good to be home for a day, but I think it probably was a very visual reminder of what you can lose so quickly. So everyone, be sure to kiss your loved ones and tell them you love them, which I am very thankful that I am still able to do, as well.

Love to all, Nancy

  1. dear nancy,
i sometimes feel the road is too long, the pile to high... how can i ever get to the end myself.. and then i realize i don't need to do it by myself. i was on that page this a.m.
miracles are often missed because i look for them in a finite amount of time..like a shooting star vs a baby...
wise people have told me not to give up before the miracle...
    ps feeling discouraged is ok

  2. Hi Nan,

So thankful to hear about the improvements! It's good that the doctor warned you that it could take time for Bill to be himself again. We're praying for continued strength and peace for all of you as Bill continues to recuperate.

    Love,
    Neal & Karen

  3. Nancy, when you look at all the posts and how long this has been, I am amazed how God has sustained you through all of this and don't be hard on yourself for being a little discouraged. You have been so strong. God has seen you through so much and He will be faithful to the end and we will see the "real Bill" It has been quite a journey hasn't it. Our prayers are still constantly going before the throne of grace, for healing, comfort, wise decisions, patience, peace and what ever else is needed. Please take care of yourself too. Love you all, jodi and darl

Amply put, what we take for ours forever can be gone in a moment.
We KNOW the long road and it will be hard, but you guys can do it. The bond that it produces will flurish for years to come.
Hang in there and don't be afraid to ask for a crutch.

Love you both Bob & Helen

  5. Nancy, so good to hear another good report. I am sorry you are a little discouraged today, but I think that is very normal. We found, going through this with my mom, that the brain is an amazing thing! It can and does heal, sometimes a lot more quickly than the doctor's predict. ultimately, the doctor's are there to assist Bill, BUT the great physician is always in control! I am praying for you!

  6. Dear Nancy,

I too am hugging my family & telling them I love them. Thinking of & praying for your situation so often. Hard for me to imagine what it must be like for you. Not surprised you are discouraged. Yet it seems Bill is on the right, although slow, road to recovery. Will be good to have him in Mary Free Bed, closer to home. Such a wonderful hospital that we are all too familiar with.
My brother in law may also be in Mary Free Bed when Bill gets there. Tom & Julie were hit by a drunk driver Friday nite. It is a miracle they are alive. Both are sharing a room @ Spectrum DT. Julie is expected to be discharged to home, but Tom will go to MFB. He has a fracture in his neck & a smashed knee which they have repaired. Yes, we have again been reminded of how fragile life is, & how it can change in a split second. Taking the time to remember what is important in life.
Continuing to hold you up in prayer to the Great Physician.
    Love you all,
    Kristi (and Mark)

  7. Dear Nancy and Family: Praise the Lord for more healing and answered prayers!! We know the ups and downs you are having (we just didn't have as many). It is easy to be discouraged at times but the Lord will carry you thru these times too. The road might be long and slow but rehab will get Bill going again and that is a good thing.(Jason Heerema, from Zion Chr. - the man that fell from the ladder that I told you about is at Mary Freebed also, so it sounds like Bill will be in good Company. We might have to pop in to see you!)Dad is doing good, he doesn't eat much yet and tires easy, but everyday he get stronger. Where does the day go? It is hard to believe somedays when you're just hanging around all day that you don't get much done! Praying for strength and encouragement for all of you. Love and Best Wishes, Kandy Suwyn and the Russ Warner Family
